It’s Mental Health Awareness Week (11–17 May 2026), and this year’s national theme is Action.
In construction and M&E, we’re used to getting on with the job. Tight deadlines, unpredictable sites, long hours, and the constant pressure to deliver are part of daily life. While awareness of mental health has improved, real change only happens when we turn awareness into action.
That’s why we’ve created WellCheck – a practical, straightforward initiative designed specifically for our teams. It’s not about big programmes or corporate initiatives. It’s about four simple, evidence-based actions that help us build resilience, protect our mental wellbeing, and feel more in control – whether we’re on site or in the office.
Construction and engineering have some of the highest rates of mental health challenges in any sector. The “just get on with it” culture, combined with high-pressure environments and often fragmented teams (including subcontractors moving between jobs), can make it hard to speak up or know where to start.
We know that even moderate, consistent changes in how we move, connect, think, and recover can deliver real improvements in mood, focus, and resilience. These small actions don’t just make us feel better – they help rewire our brains for greater self-efficacy and control.
WellCheck brings these ideas together in one simple framework, created with our industry and our people in mind.

These aren’t abstract ideas. They’re practical tools we can all use – on site, in the van, or at home.
How to Get Started
You’ve probably already seen the WellCheck posters around our offices and sites. Now we’re inviting everyone to take the next step.

Inside you’ll find more detail on each action, quick-start tips, and the science behind why they work. It only takes a few minutes to read, but the impact can last much longer.
Pick just one action to focus on this week. That’s all it takes to begin.
At DL M&E we believe looking after our people isn’t just the right thing to do — it’s essential for a safe, high-performing team. Mental health is as important as physical safety.
We have trained Mental Health First Aiders across the business who are here to listen without judgement. If you’re struggling, or just want a confidential chat, please reach out to one of them or speak to your line manager.
This week is about taking action – for yourself, for your colleagues, and for our wider teams. Whether you try one of the four actions, check in on a teammate, or simply give yourself permission to pause, every small step counts.
We’d love to hear how you get on. Share your experience in the comments below, or speak to one of the team.
Let’s make this Mental Health Awareness Week count – one action at a time.
