Earlier this month, DL M&E inspired the next generation of electricians at our local Westhoughton High School Career Fair last week. Hundreds of children came through the hall, 5 of which said they specifically wanted to be electricians and many more wanted to explore careers in M&E – fantastic to hear!
Year 7’s to 11’s in their hundreds packed the gym hall. These are moments of rare opportunity to meet pupils early at the point of their decision making, helping them connect their personal skills to the large number of different M&E industry roles available.
As construction continues to face a future of huge demand that’s short on labour, it’s important to DL M&E that we encourage children into STEM subjects, motivating some of the younger children to think more about how they can link the subjects they do to their future careers. It always feels a privilege to be able to contribute this way, cheerleading them on to success!
Alongside the promotion of careers in construction, last week our Managing Director Ben Milner attended Westhoughton High School to encourage future engineers and present the winner for the DL M&E sponsored Race to the Line project. What a fantastic, fun afternoon it was!
Race to the Line is a STEM initiative developed by The Learning Partnership, and DL M&E was delighted to sponsor the event for the Year 7s. In a gymnasium packed with teams of children that developed their own CO2 canister powered “Rocket cars”, their engineering skills were put to the final test and pitted against each other. It’s an enjoyable way for children to engage with engineering and design principles fused with creativity.
Our goal is to encourage children to link their learning strengths to the natural skills they have for solving engineering challenges, inspiring them into the world of engineering and strengthening the future of our industry.
