DL M&E Building Services Ltd was appointed to deliver the mechanical and electrical works for a flagship high street bank branch in Manchester City Centre. The project involved a complete six-week closure of the branch, giving our team unrestricted access to transform the ground and first floors into a modern, customer-focused and fully accessible environment.
This controlled shutdown period allowed us to execute the works with precision and zero impact on daily banking operations, while still retaining and integrating as much of the bank’s existing infrastructure as possible – a hallmark of our efficient delivery approach.
We retained the existing low voltage distribution boards and installed new circuits protected by MCBs or RCBOs, each selected to match the exact load requirements. All circuit breakers were clearly labelled, and laminated schedules were fitted to every board for long-term ease of maintenance.
Small power was delivered across both floors to suit the revised layout, including dedicated supplies to booth seating, banquet areas, Digi Zone, knowledge bar, relocated ATMs, first-floor counters, secure room, waiting area, business lounge and colleague tea point – complete with floor boxes, ceiling-void outlets, 20 A double-pole switches and switched fused spurs.
A complete new ground-floor lighting scheme (designed and supplied by Fagerhult) was installed and fully integrated into the bank’s existing Lighting Control Modules (LCMs). This preserved the original control philosophy while delivering a dramatically upgraded customer experience:
First-floor works included replacement of stairwell pendants with eight Xootube Hydra fittings and reinstatement of the original bronze pendants in the waiting area. Third-floor back-of-house spaces and the new DDA toilet received PIR-controlled LED emergency battens and compliant spotlighting.
Fire-alarm modifications were fully integrated (new smoke detectors, sounder beacon and extract-fan interface), addressed, commissioned and certified.
All circuits were tested to BS 7671 and a full Electrical Installation Certificate was issued.
Noalterations were required to the space heating or main air-conditioning plant.Air-conditioning controllers and sensors were relocated to suit the newlayouts.
Wedesigned, installed and commissioned a dedicated extract ventilation system forthe third-floor DDA-compliant toilet using a 100 mm Vent Axia ACM inline fan,spiral-wound ductwork and full fire-alarm interlock.
Domestic servicesincluded a first-floor tea point (reusing the existing Brita tap) and a fullyfunctional DDA toilet served by a local Ariston 10 L water heater. Both areaswere chlorinated, flushed and temperature-set to meet legionella and hot-watersafety standards.
The completed branch now provides a contemporary, visually impressive and fully accessible customer environment while maintaining the highest standards of safety, maintainability and compliance.
By delivering sophisticated Fagerhult lighting with colour-changing features, seamless integration of existing controls, fully compliant DDA facilities and precise mechanical upgrades – all within a tight six-week window – DL M&E demonstrated once again why we are trusted by major UK banks and commercial clients for complex M&E refurbishments.
