Project Profile – BBC Berkshire
In 2017 DL M&E Building Services designed the full fit out at BBC Radio Berkshire’s new studio location, on behalf of our client Wates Smartspace.
DL M&E Building Services were engaged to develop the concept design to BSRIA Stage 4, in coordination with the architect, acoustician and project team. A strict and exacting coordination of the design led into the construction stagesof the project, whereby DL M&E Building Services undertook the installation of the mechanical and electrical services throughout the premises.
An 80 kVA generator was installed along with a 72-hour fuel storage system, to ensure that the radio station could function fully in the event of a power failure. The electrical design considered load stepping and provided affordable solutions to this element.
Floor mounted CRAC units were installed in rooms adjacent to the two studios. This was to provide the heating and cooling requirements to the radio studio areas, which were designed and installed in line with the acoustic properties of the rooms, preventing sound penetration from and to other areas. General DX air-conditioning was installed throughout the rest of the office space, meeting rooms, filming studio and news desk area.
A full electrical installation was undertaken throughout the premise, including the requirements for the news desks, radio studios and IT infrastructure.
Lighting systems were installed, including a lighting control system with exacting requirements in relation to the filming studio, providing specifics scene setting for when recordings were taking place, linked with the filming equipment. A new fire alarm system was also installed along with the security systems required for the building.
